With vivid imagery and a breakneck-paced story, After the Rain is a refreshing and thought-provoking read!

We follow along with Chioma as she visits her grandma and great-aunt in Nigeria. Her world is turned upside down after a creepy visit from a mysterious, mangled boy. The encounter leaves her feeling afraid and paranoid; she senses a presence breathing down her neck at every turn, leaving her with a deep sense of foreboding that we the reader feel right along with her—and it only grows with each page.

The imagery in this graphic novel is spectacular. Each panel is detailed and beautiful, evoking exquisite scenes that truly transport you right into the story with Chioma. I was sucked right in! I love how some of the scenes even gave me chills and tingles at the thought of some of the more gruesome details.

The build up and execution of the most pivotal scenes toward the end are so well done! The twist was believable and very thought-provoking, leaving me with only a yearning to know more of Chioma’s story and to see where she goes from here.

This is most definitely a 5 star for me! Thank you, Abrams ComicArts and Edelweiss, for allowing me to read this advance reader copy.

After the Rain will be released January 5, 2021
